The Client is a UK based leading international commodity trading exchange. The Client's electronic trading and auction product brings together
a global network of merchants and other commodity professionals in a secure,
transparent and cost effective environment.

The Business Need
|
The client's previous exchange software was outdated, very slow and
it called for considerable manual intervention that was tedious for
merchants in the commodity trading business. The need thus was to have a
product that could enhance speed, reduce manual data feeding, facilitate
handling larger volumes of traffic and provide enhanced features for
a seamless performance that was in sync with the evolving business model
of commodity trading.
The Client wanted a system that should have following features:

A web based solution to help them manage users
with different packages and various access levels.

Allows its clients to have stock and account management functionality.

Have various features required in fine commodity exchange
like commodity searching, bidding etc Was configurable as per specific
client requirements.

The Solution
|
BrickRed in close collaboration with client thoroughly analyzed their
existing system. Since the older system was developed using legacy languages
and there were quite a number of enhancements, BrickRed proposed to
build a completely new product utilizing latest technologies. The new
technology set and architecture allowed system to have longer life and
lower cost of maintenance & enhancements.
A very easy to use and intuitive online marketplace and procurement solution was developed using Java based technologies. The online product provided a neutral market for dealers, intermediaries, traders and end-users to conduct real-time and secure transactions. The Online commodity Trading Product was designed to meet and surpass all the needs of the commodity marketplace through a highly innovative trading system that could aggregate spot rates from the world's leading markets and commodity companies; enabling the dealers to work with just one single application for all their trading needs
BrickRed took care of the complete software development life cycle of the product and performed System Analysis, Project Scheduling & Monitoring, Design, Coding, Testing, Documentation and Implementation. Majority of the development was done offshore while team made few onsite visits at various stages during the execution of the project.
Additionally, BrickRed undertook monitoring and backing up of the system, rotating logs, applying security patches and dealing with security issues. It also took responsibility for client notification of any system outages.
Trust, open communication and cohesive team effort between the client and the offshore team was a major success factor for the success of this project. BrickRed's online project management tool was used to provide complete visibility to the client during the development of the product and is now used extensively to manage the enhancements in the system.
